Benson & Hedges cigarettes are a British cigarette brand owned by the American conglomerate Altria. Benson & Hedges cigarettes are manufactured worldwide by various companies such as Rothmans, Benson Hedges, Phillip Morris USA, British American Tobacco, or Japan Tobacco, depending on the region. In the UK they are registered at Old Bond Street in London and were made in Lisnafillan, Ballymena, Northern Ireland before production was moved to Eastern Europe in 2017.

Benson & Hedges cigarettes are predominantly made from Virginia tobacco. In some countries where Philip Morris does not own the Benson & Hedges cigarettes trademark, such as the Philippines, a cigarette variant of the North American Benson Hedges brand is sold under the Philip Morris brand using similar packaging.

From 1996 to 2005 the company that produces Benson & Hedges cigarettes was the main sponsor of the Jordan Grand Prix team. While racing in countries where tobacco advertising is banned (such as the UK, France and later Germany, Belgium, Canada, USA, Italy, Turkey), the team used alternate liveries such as “Bitten Hisses”, “Buzzin’ Hornets”. ‘, ‘Bitten Heroes’ and ‘Be on the Edge’ to circumvent cigarette advertising bans while still promoting their product.

Australian Touring Car Championship. The manufacturer of Benson & Hedges cigarettes sponsored Tony Longhurst’s team in the 1980s and early 1990s in Australian Touring Car Racing. All sponsorship ended when federal legislation banned tobacco advertising at sporting events in 1996.

Skating. Benson & Hedges cigarettes sponsored the touring ice show Benson Hedges on Ice in the late 1980s. Debi Thomas made her professional debut on the show. Throughout the 1980s, the company was the main sponsor of international cricket, with naming rights for most one-day international tournaments, including the World Series Cup and Cricket World Cup.

Others. The manufacturer of Benson & Hedges cigarettes was a major sponsor of iD Dunedin Fashion Week in New Zealand from the 1940s to 1995, when tobacco sponsorship was completely banned.
